Panasonic Lumix FZ18 - review

Panasonic Lumix FZ18

Eleven days ago I unboxed the Panasonic Lumix FZ18 and now we have spent some serious time with the super-zoom FZ18 to measure it up. The camera features a massive 18x Leica zoom lens with optical image stabilisation and a 28-504mm equivalent focal length range. Check out our full review of this nice camera.

Ultra thin flash memory drive

Ultra thin flash memory drive from Google.

I haven’t seen one of these ultra thin flash memory drives before. They are thin as a credit card and this version sent out by Google as a Christmas present can store 2 GB of data. Pretty neat.

40 new Apple stores in 2008

Apple Store coming to a town near you

Apple will open 40 new Apple stores during the next year. Already announced stores are 2 in Brazil, 1 in Mexico City, and 3 new in United Kingdom. I guess I have to wait a couple of years before we get an official Apple Store in Sweden, but at least it is nice to see an aggresive expansion plan.

Vista SP1 RC1 available

Windows Vista Service Pack 1

I just got the news that Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is available for public download. It’s not the final version but it’s at least the first release candidate and it should be extremely close to the real thing. It’s a big download - 32-bit version is between 440 and 550 MB, and the 64-bit version is between 730 and 880 MB - and you might need to uninstall it completely when the Vista SP1 Final is ready. If you download it and try it out, please drop a comment.

Pac-Man Christmas tree

Pac-Man Christmas tree in Spain

This is by far the coolest christmas tree I have seen so far this year. You can find the tree outside a shopping mall in Madrid, Spain and projected on the sides of the christmas tree you can see a big Pac-man game. You can’t play the game but at least it’s animated. Nice one!

Playstation in your iPhone

PS-emulator in your iPhone

There’s already a homebrew Nintendo emulator available for the iPhone (and the iPod touch) and now it looks like we will get a Playstation emulator too. Too bad you got to use the touch screen to control the game (well, there aren’t many options…) as your fingers will hide the actual gameplay. The developer has estimated that 75% of all games will be playable on the emulator. Psx4iphone will be out in a couple of weeks - and yes currently you need to hack your iPhone to get these kind of applications running.

$270 Blu-ray player

Samsung BD-P1400

A couple of weeks ago we reported that Toshiba sold over 90 000 HD-DVD players over one weekend when they dumped the price down to under $100. Today you can get a blu-ray player for a very low price too. It’s no way near $100 but still $270 is pretty darn cheap for a Samsung BD-P1400!

Chain wine bottle holder

Chain wine bottle holder

Ok, don’t get me this one for christmas because I don’t want to own it - but I still think it’s a really cool product! It might be more interesting to watch it on a photo than in real life though (it’s hard to Photoshop reality). Anyway you can get it for $43 and it’s designed by Peleg Studio.

Rumor roundup: Ultra portable MacBook

A couple of days ago I wrote about the ultra portable MacBook that might be launched (or at least unveiled) on the MacWorld Expo in San Francisco. Today Mac Rumors published a great roundup of all the rumors circulating about the new MacBook. It looks like some of them have concluded that the new model will weigh 50% less than the current one and that the magnetic spinning hard drive will be by a small, silent NAND flash based solid state drive.

The current MacBook (featured above) is 1.08 inches thick and weighs 5 pounds. On January 15 the guessing game is over…can’t wait!

Twelve 5-9 - Q version

Twelve 5-9 - Q version

Just a few minutes ago I got some information from TokyoFlash about their latest model - the Twelve 5-9 - Q version. If you haven’t heard about TokyoFlash, before they are a web shop specialized in selling really unique and weird watches from Japan that often look very cool and have a very special way of displaying the time.
