Wedisk USB Flash Drive

Wedisk USB Flash Drive

Now this is just cute - the Wedisk USB flash drive that looks like a Wiimote, save it comes in a much more pocketable size, courtesy of SolarMemo. The A button will release the USB connector, but that's about all the interactivity you'll be able to get out of it. I'm not sure whether Nintendo's legal eagles approve of this though. The Wedisk will come in various sizes of up to 8GB, but there is no word on pricing at the moment. When will the Nunchuck version roll out?

Sony Bluetooth-enabled PMPs

Sony Bluetooth-enabled PMPs

Sony has thrown in Bluetooth connectivity into a couple of its new PMPs, namely the 16GB NW-A829 and the 8GB NW-A828. Both of these PMPs feature MP3, WMA, ATRAC, Sony PCM, AAC/High Efficiency AAC, and MPEG-4/H.264 support, playing virtually every single popular format of today (and tomorrow). Some folks might not be too happy with the 2.4" LCD display, but you can't really complain much considering the body measures a mere 9.3mm wide while tipping the scales at 59 grams. A 36-hour battery life for audio is pretty decent, while a 10-hour viewing time for videos before a recharge is required makes this a suitable companion for prolonged travel. There is no word on pricing or availability as at press time.

Emotiv is Nearly Ready

Emotiv is Nearly Ready

It is nearly a year since the Emotiv prototype was demonstrated to Ubergizmo, and as one expects, a whole lot can happen within a year. The latest Emotiv model is almost ready for prime time action, where you will soon be able to control a computer application (albeit in a very limited manner) simply by conjuring an appropriate thought. Sounds perfect for gaming, as sometimes our reflexes (or hardware) fails us during the most crucial moments. Unfortunately, Emotiv's technology is far from ready if it were to be used in a highly accurate environment, so that will take a fair bit of time to develop assuming such lofty standards can be achieved in the first place. Will the Emotiv headset be a hot ticket this Christmas when it is released, retailing for $299?

Wii Fit US Launch in May

Wii Fit US Launch in May

Looks like the Wii Fit will be landing on US shores this May, enabling people living Stateside to take advantage of the weight-and-motion sensing device known as the Wii Balance Board right smack in the middle of their comfortable living room. This isn't an exercise replacement, so spending too many hours with your Wii won't make you lose more pounds than you would when sitting down idly - in fact, chances are you might even gain some weight with all the pizza and soda you're consuming. I wonder whether the Wii Balance Board has been modified to cater for obese folks living on this part of the world.

Thanko SIRE2SET Silent Keyboard

Thanko SIRE2SET Silent Keyboard

For those who love typing late into the night (or surfing questionable websites), there is the Thanko SIRE2SET silent multimedia keyboard. I guess this is best used with an equally silent mouse that Thanko already has. The SIRE2SET keyboard can be hooked up to two PCs through a couple of separate USB connections, where you use a sliding switch on the keyboard to decide which PC you want to work with. Too bad this is a Japan-only product, retailing for $46. I can forsee folks with two workstations having this - one for them to surf the latest celebrity scandals, switching over to the actual work PC whenever the boss walks by.

GTC G850 Takes After A MacBook

GTC G850 Takes After A MacBook

The GTC G850 might look like Apple's MacBook at a cursory glance, but it is actually a much smaller sized device that helps keep you entertained during those long haul flights. It has a 3.5" QVGA display for starters (at least you no longer need to squint) and is powered by a Switzerland-RK2706 processor. Supported formats include RMVB, AVI, MPEG, MPG, DAT videos and MP3, WMA, JPEG and TXT. A miniSD memory card slot, USB connectivity and AV out rounds off the list of features. Available in 2GB and 4GB capacities, the former will retail for approximately $120. Other than the pleasant aesthetics, everything else inside is a cookie cutter PMP from China, which probably means a lousy user interface.

Samsung Camera With OLED Display

Samsung Camera With OLED Display

Samsung Techwin has some pretty snazzy technology crammed into its VLUU NV24HD digital camera, which is an OLED display as well as HDMI connectivity. I don't know which is worse - the unpronounceable name or the obviously high price tag that will come with this digital camera. To refresh your memory on how expensive OLED displays are, Sony's 11" OLED TV retails for a whopping $2,500 each.

U-Mate Lap-Around-Japan Pedometer

U-Mate Lap-Around-Japan Pedometer

The U-Mate Lap-Around-Japan pedometer is definitely one healthy idea to encourage folks to walk more. It takes a different method to mark the number of miles you and your sneakers have covered, doing away with tradition that involves showing off the same old landmarks such as a skyscraper, convenience store and roadworks, but instead transforms the miles into the Japanese coastline. In addition, it keeps you to speed by entertaining you with the geography of Japan just in case you were sleeping in class back at school. For example, assuming you take one mile to reach your office by foot and the same distance back home after work. The U-Mate Lap-Around-Japan pedometer will convert those two miles into two coastline miles, beginning with the closest coastal area from your actual location. As you continue to journey, tiny facts about local sights, history and produce will pop up for your perusal. Looks like it is now more convenient to get smart and healthy simultaneously.

Sharp VA3A5JZ922 1-Seg Broadcast Module

Sharp VA3A5JZ922 1-Seg Broadcast Module

The Sharp VA3A5JZ922 is the smallest and thinnest 1-Seg broadcast tuner module in the world, measuring a mere 5.9mm x 5.9mm x 0.9mm, making it 35% smaller than its predecessor which was launched a year ago. This makes it possible for more devices to cram in 1-Seg functionality, and it won't really make an impact on battery life considering the minuscule power consumption of a mere 80mW. Mass production of the Sharp VA3A5JZ922 will begin in September this year, so expect to see next year's gadgets feature portable TV functionality. Hopefully the displays on those will be able to serve some visual justice then without compromising on battery life.

ToyQuest Touch Table EES

ToyQuest Touch Table EES

ToyQuest has unveiled its 21" Touch Table EES educational system that offers a variety of activities to keep your child occupied and captivated without the negative input that most TV shows offer these days. Some of the features include games, a globe styled after Google Earth, a DVD player, speakers, and all the necessary AV/USB/SD inputs. The Touch Table EES also comes with a rotating display that makes it useful when sitting down - too bad it doesn't hook up to the Internet as that is a greater treasure trove of information where kids can learn from. The ToyQuest Touch Table EES retails for $499 and will be made available this fall.

Zeno Pro Acne Clearing Device

Zeno Pro Acne Clearing Device

Zits are the bane and nightmare of every teenager - especially those who are out to impress the opposite sex. The Zeno Pro Acne Clearing Device holds the honor of being the first FDA-approved home gadget that removes acne, although I'm not too sure just how effective it is. Apparently, it uses a heated tip that is applied to a pimple, where the heat itself will shock away bacteria that causes acne. Using it at two to three 2.5 minute treatment intervals spread over 24 hours, the manufacturers claim that most pimples will then disappear. Not too sure if the $184.95 is worth the trial, but if you've tried everything else with little or no success, this could be your last chance saloon. In the meantime, do remember to eat more greens, drink more water and get enough rest. I wonder whether placing a hot, damp cloth on my face will have the same effect - after all "heat" seems to be the keyword here.
